Hats and Such

Living in the Islands requires a proper amount of concern about sun protection.
As such, most houses have a giant hat rack of hats to grab on the way out the door.
At my house the rack contains hats of all sizes and qualities. It is a repository of the precious and the lost and found and everything in between.
It is a sure sign of a house which is full of guests, outings and fun.
The finest woven hats in the world are know as Panama.
Ironically, they are woven in Ecuador not Panama. I have always wondered why Ecuador got gyped on that!
The finest of the Panama hats can be folded flat.
All local cultures have their own versions.
The Bahamas makes one from palm frond leaves which start bright green and turn brown and brittle as they age. Tourists are often seen in the green ones.
Hats can also be art and with a carefully considered toss, the place they land can become the x that creates the spot!
